This Website

This site is powered by a number of technologies, mixed, blended, altered and in some cases plain old hacked to create a website driven by dynamic content from site databases, style sheets (CSS) and external content (RSS feeds read as XML). The brief descriptions below dont really do justice to the full functionality available within some of the technologies and are intended to give a flavour of the systems employed with associated links if you would like further information.

Ubuntu™

Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more.

PHP™

PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML.

Satellite™

Satellite™ is an all in one photo gallery website that takes advantage of Yahoo Flickr™'s image hosting and management tools. You can upload and manage your images using Flickr™ and host your portfolio on your own server via Satellite™.

Flickr™

Flickr is a photo sharing website and web services suite, and an online community platform. It was one of the earliest Web 2.0 applications. In addition to being a popular Web site for users to share personal photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers as a photo repository. Its popularity has been fueled by its innovative online community tools that allow photos to be tagged and browsed by folksonomic means. It hosts more than two billion images - not all of them mine!

RSS Feeds

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content including, but not limited to, blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts. An RSS document (which is called a "feed" or "web feed" or "channel") contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.
